Leaves

After The Umbrellas, we had to work on another object. Leaves. We were asked to pick six different leaves and project them on paper, using dark ink. Looking at the prints, we had to create six geometric abstractions of them. We were not told what that meant exactly.

At first I picked my six leaves and projected them on paper using black ink.

After that I tried to study the prints a bit, but because I did not know what geometric abstraction meant, I was not entirely sure what I was looking for. The only thing that I could think of was that it had to do with shapes, given the term geometry. And since it included abstraction, I thought the shapes had to be not very precise, but rather irregular and abstract.

And so I tried to mimic the shapes of six leaves using my "method". Using different shapes, combining them to create larger replicas of the leaves. I coloured some parts of these figures to make the whole design a bit more interesting, but also make it somewhat abstract. The photo shows what the finished design looked like.
